The Kremlin has announced that despite US President Donald Trump’s statements about Russian President Vladimir Putin and the resumption of arms supplies to Ukraine, Russia does not think that peace talks have stopped, writes Reuters.
Trump announced on the 8th of July that he was not satisfied with Putin’s behavior, and said that the Kremlin boss was talking a lot of nonsense. The US continues to supply Ukraine with artillery shells and missile ammunition.
Responding to a question from Reuters whether peace talks had stopped, taking into account Trump’s remarks and the resumption of arms supplies, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that he did not think so.
Russia is waiting for signals from Kyiv that it is ready to continue negotiations.
Peskov said that Russia has repeatedly said that it would be happy to resolve everything peacefully, politically and diplomatically, but until that happens, the special military operation continues and the situation changes every day.
Putin ordered thousands of troops into Ukraine in February 2022. Fighting has been ongoing in eastern Ukraine since 2014. US figures show that 1.2 million people have died since 2022.
Trump, who wants to be remembered as a peacemaker, has repeatedly called for an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine. Despite pressure from Trump and European leaders, Putin has insisted that he will only end the war if Ukraine gives up some of its territory to Russia.
