A cyclone approaching from the west will intensify its influence in the middle of the week, and skies will gradually become overcast starting Tuesday night, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Wednesday and Thursday, skies will be mostly cloudy, clearing only in some areas. Snow is expected at times, and in some places the snow cover may increase by 1–3 cm. A mostly moderate easterly wind will blow, easing on Thursday. A warmer air mass will move into the country, with nighttime temperatures dropping to –13 to –18°C, and a few degrees warmer along the coast. Only in the far eastern regions is severe frost expected, with temperatures falling to –21 to –23°C. Daytime maximum temperatures will range between –5 and –10°C, and will be a few degrees higher in Kurzeme.
On Friday, thick cloud cover will persist, clearing only in some areas during the day. In places, mainly in the eastern regions, light snow is expected at times. A light to moderate westerly wind will blow. Air temperatures will be milder than earlier in the week, with nighttime lows of –10 to –15°C, and –7 to –11°C in coastal areas.
Daytime highs will range between –4 and –8°C, and between –1 and –4°C in Kurzeme.
Over the weekend and at the beginning of next week, nighttime minimum temperatures across most of the country are expected to range between –10 and –15°C, while daytime temperatures will rise to –3 to –8°C. In western regions, the thermometer will approach 0°C, making a slight thaw possible in some areas. Skies will remain mostly overcast, with occasional precipitation expected.
