On Thursday, the 26th of February, skies will be cloudy, with occasional clearing in the south during the day, but no significant precipitation is expected, according to the Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. A light to moderate southerly to southwesterly wind will blow, with gusts along the coast reaching 15–17 m/s.
Around midnight and in the morning, fog will form in some areas, reducing visibility to 500–100 meters. Minimum nighttime air temperatures will range between -10…-15°C, while in the first half of the night, as skies clear, temperatures in some eastern regions may drop a degree lower. In Kurzeme and along the Gulf coast, temperatures will range from -3…-8°C. During the day, temperatures will rise to +2…-3°C.
On Friday and Saturday, a large cyclone will approach Latvia from the northwest, bringing increased precipitation.
Southerly to southwesterly winds will persist, with gusts in coastal areas on Friday reaching up to 15–17 m/s.
Both at night and during the day it will become comparatively warmer. On Friday night, temperatures in eastern regions will fall to -1…-5°C, while on Saturday night minimum temperatures will remain above 0°C. Daytime temperatures will rise to +1…+6°C.
On Sunday and during the night into Monday, precipitation is still expected in many areas — mainly sleet and rain. At the beginning of next week, however, the weather will turn dry, with occasional sunny intervals. Daytime temperatures across the country will rise above 0°C, while nighttime minimum temperatures in some areas will still range between 0…-5°C.
