In the first half of the week, the weather will remain not only cold but also dry. Under the influence of colder air masses, nighttime temperatures across much of the country will drop to –20°C or even lower, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
During the daytime, however, air temperatures will mostly not exceed –9…–14°C. Tuesday will still be mostly sunny, but by midweek cloud cover will gradually increase.
In the second half of the week, the influence of a cyclone from the southwest will strengthen, bringing an inflow of warmer air and an increase in precipitation. At night, temperatures will not fall below –15°C, and daytime frost will also ease; however, the likelihood of a thaw toward the end of next week remains low.
