On Monday and Tuesday, sunshine will at times be covered by clouds, while on Wednesday skies will become mostly cloudy, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Weather conditions during these days will be relatively uniform—no precipitation is expected and winds will remain light. During the night into Monday, fog will thicken in some areas, reducing visibility.
Minimum night-time temperatures will mostly range between –14…–19°C. However, where skies clear—especially in central and eastern regions—temperatures may drop to –20…–24°C. On Tuesday and Wednesday, it will be slightly warmer along the coast.
During daylight hours, temperatures across much of the country will rise to –7…–12°C.
Along the coast, and on Wednesday also in western regions, air temperatures will be a few degrees higher.
In the second half of the week, a cyclone will approach Latvia from the west, bringing widespread snow and wet snow. With southwesterly and southerly winds prevailing, gusty winds are expected along the coast.
Air temperatures will rise significantly, and in some places the thermometer will fluctuate around the 0°C mark, marking a noticeable shift from the deep frost at the beginning of the week.
