During the night into Thursday, skies will see only a small amount of cloud cover; however, from the south, cloudiness will gradually increase during the morning hours. During the day, intermittent snowfall is expected in the southern parts of the country, and in the east by the evening. A light to moderate easterly wind will blow, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
At night, haze will form in some areas, reducing visibility. Night-time air temperatures will range from –14…–19°C, while in many central and eastern regions they will drop to –20…–24°C. Only along the Gulf of Riga coast in Kurzeme will it be a few degrees warmer. During the day, temperatures will rise to –7…–12°C.
On Friday and Saturday, clouds will cover the sky, with sunshine breaking through only occasionally. Snow is expected mainly in eastern and central regions. On Friday, snow cover will increase by 1–4 cm in some areas. A light to moderate easterly to northeasterly wind will continue to blow. At night, temperatures will fall to –7…–12°C,
while on Friday daytime temperatures will rise to –5…–10°C.
On Saturday, daytime frost will continue to ease, with air temperatures ranging from –4…–7°C. On Sunday, colder air will gradually return to Latvia, and frost will once again intensify. At the beginning of next week, sunshine will alternate with clouds, and no significant precipitation is expected. At night, temperatures may again drop below –20°C in some areas.
