On Tuesday and Wednesday, variable cloudiness will be observed in the sky and light winds will prevail. During the night into Tuesday and in the morning hours, fog will form in some areas, while precipitation is expected only on Wednesday, when snow will fall in many places during the day, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Tuesday night, the air will cool to -17…-22°C, and in some places very severe frost is expected, with air temperatures down to -25…-26°C. Along parts of the coast and in some northern areas it will be milder, with -11…-16°C. During daylight hours, across a large area the air will warm to -8…-13°C, while mainly along the coast temperatures will be a few degrees higher. In the night into Wednesday, the minimum air temperature in many places is expected to be between -13…-18°C, while during the day the thermometer will reach -4…-9°C.
On Thursday, warmer air will move in from the south, bringing a brief thaw to many places
in the second half of the week, meteorologists note.
Air temperature during this period will be changeable: each day, slight positive temperatures will be observed in some part of the country, most often in the southeast. As the influence of a cyclone strengthens, snow is expected across most of the territory, turning into wet snow and rain, and there is a higher likelihood of black ice forming. A light to moderate easterly wind will blow, shifting to southwesterly by the weekend and becoming gustier in coastal areas.
At the start of next week, air temperatures will again be mostly below zero.
