Some eastern parts of Latvia may see light rain on Friday, while light northerly winds will prevail across most of the country, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Daytime temperatures will rise to 22–27°C, while areas along the Gulf of Riga coast will remain a few degrees cooler.
Over the weekend and on Monday, a warmer air mass will move into Latvia, bringing a significant rise in temperatures. While only isolated areas are expected to reach 30°C on Saturday, most of the country is forecast to experience temperatures between 30°C and 35°C on Sunday and Monday.
Tropical nights are also expected. During the weekend, some areas will remain above 20°C overnight, while by the night into Monday, tropical nighttime temperatures are forecast across much of Latvia, with temperatures not falling below the 20°C mark.
The influence of a high-pressure system will keep Saturday and Sunday largely dry, with only isolated showers possible overnight. However, Monday is expected to become more unsettled, bringing more widespread rain and the potential for thunderstorms.
On Tuesday, temperatures in some central and eastern regions could still reach 25–28°C, before the heat gradually eases later in the week. Even so, conditions will remain seasonably warm.
Following the hot spell, thunderstorms accompanied by heavy showers are expected to develop in some areas toward the end of June, while July is also forecast to begin with rainy weather, the forecasters said.
