A wave of much warmer air will move into Latvia over the weekend and on Monday, bringing a significant rise in temperatures, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
While on Saturday temperatures of up to 31 degrees Celsius are expected only in some areas, Sunday and Monday will bring heat of between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius across most of the country.
Tropical nights are also expected, with temperatures in some places over the weekend—and in many areas on the night into Monday—not falling below 20 degrees Celsius.
On Saturday and Sunday, the influence of a high-pressure system will keep conditions largely dry, with only isolated overnight showers possible. However, Monday is expected to be wetter, with an increasing likelihood of thunderstorms developing.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures in parts of central and eastern Latvia could still reach 25 to 28 degrees Celsius, before the intense heat gradually eases later in the week. Even so, conditions will remain seasonably warm. At the beginning of July, the hot weather is expected to trigger thunderstorms in some areas, bringing heavy downpours.
