During the first half of Tuesday, brief showers are expected in some areas, but by the afternoon a broad precipitation zone will begin moving across Latvia, bringing prolonged rainfall to many parts of the country. In some areas, the rain will be heavy and is expected to continue into Wednesday, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Wednesday, isolated thunderstorms are also forecast in eastern Latvia. Light to moderate southwesterly and southerly winds will prevail before gradually turning northwesterly to northerly on Wednesday morning and strengthening. Gusty winds are expected along the coast on both Tuesday night and Wednesday, with gusts reaching up to 20 m/s along the Baltic Sea coast. Nights will remain relatively cool, with temperatures falling to +8°C to +13°C, while daytime highs will range between +15°C and +21°C.
The cyclone’s centre will remain over Latvia on Thursday as well, resulting in prolonged and heavy rainfall across much of the country. Central regions may experience very heavy rain, with thunderstorms possible in some areas. Northwesterly to northerly winds will continue to produce coastal gusts of 15–19 m/s.
Cloudy and rainy conditions are expected to persist through the end of the week, although the strong winds will gradually ease. Warmer air is forecast to move into Latvia over the weekend, bringing higher temperatures on Saturday and Sunday as well as at the beginning of next week.
