Latvia is set to experience the hottest day of the week on Friday, with temperatures climbing as high as 31°C, before significantly cooler and more unsettled weather arrives over the weekend, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
During the night into Friday, skies will be partly cloudy, while cloud cover will increase during the day, bringing brief showers to some areas. Light to moderate southerly winds will gradually turn westerly across western Latvia by midday.
Overnight temperatures will remain relatively warm, ranging between 14°C and 19°C across most of the country, although eastern regions may cool to around 11°C. Daytime temperatures will rise to 26–31°C, while parts of the Kurzeme coast will be slightly cooler at 23–25°C.
On Saturday, skies will initially remain mostly clear overnight before cloud cover increases during the day, bringing rain to many areas and isolated thunderstorms. Light winds will continue, while dense fog reducing visibility to 100–500 metres is expected overnight and during the morning in parts of western and central Latvia. Overnight temperatures will range from 14°C to 19°C, with daytime highs reaching 19–24°C, although
eastern Latvia could still see temperatures of 25–28°C.
On Sunday, rain is expected across eastern Latvia and, during the second half of the night, in parts of the west as well. Light winds will persist, while patches of dense fog are again forecast overnight in western and central parts of the country, affecting visibility. Temperatures will fall to 13–18°C overnight before rising to 19–24°C during the day.
The first half of next week is expected to remain seasonably warm, with daytime temperatures exceeding 20°C across most of Latvia. Skies will often be cloudy, but the weather is expected to remain mostly dry. Current forecasts indicate that the middle of next week is most likely to bring windier conditions.
