During the night into Wednesday snow is expected in many areas, with localized freezing rain possible in eastern and central regions. In the morning, snowfall will continue only in the southeastern part of the country, and during the day the influence of an anticyclone will strengthen — atmospheric pressure will rise, the weather will become dry, winds will be light, and clouds will dissipate across much of the territory, according to the Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Minimum air temperatures at night will range from -3…-8°C, while in Vidzeme and Kurzeme temperatures will drop to -9…-14°C. Maximum daytime temperatures will be between +1…-4°C.
On Thursday, skies will be cloudy, with occasional clear spells in the south of the country, and no significant precipitation is expected. A light to moderate southerly and southeasterly wind will blow, becoming gusty in coastal areas in the afternoon. Fog will form in some areas during the night and morning, reducing visibility. In eastern regions, skies will clear overnight, allowing temperatures to drop to -13…-18°C. Where cloud cover remains more extensive, nighttime temperatures will range between -7…-12°C, with slightly warmer conditions along the coast.
Maximum daytime temperatures will be between +2…-3°C.
On Friday, a large cyclone will approach Latvia from the northwest — precipitation will increase, and southerly to southwesterly winds will continue to gust at 15–16 m/s in coastal areas.
At night, snow and sleet are expected in western parts of the country, while during the day sleet is forecast in some areas, mainly along the coast, and as temperatures rise, rain is also expected. Both at night and during the day it will be comparatively milder — nighttime temperatures will fall to -2…-7°C, approaching 0°C along the coast, while daytime temperatures will rise to 0…+4°C.
Weather conditions over the weekend will be varied — on Saturday precipitation is still expected in many areas, mainly sleet and rain, while Sunday will be dry with some clear skies and sunshine. Compared to the working week, temperatures will become slightly warmer: minimum nighttime temperatures will mostly range between +2…-3°C, and daytime temperatures will rise to +1…+5°C.
