On Monday, the center of an anticyclone will be positioned over Latvia. Skies will be mostly clear, although clouds will occasionally appear. Light snowfall is possible in some areas, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
With light winds, fog and mist may form overnight and in the morning in certain regions. Nighttime temperatures will drop to –13 to –18°C, slightly warmer in coastal areas. In southern Latvia, as skies clear, severe frost is expected with temperatures falling to –20 to –24°C, and locally even down to –25 to –27°C. During the day, temperatures will rise to –3 to –8°C, and –6 to –11°C in eastern regions.
On Tuesday, similar weather conditions will persist, but even colder air is expected. As skies clear, nighttime temperatures in many areas will fall to –20 to –24°C, and in some places — mainly in central and eastern Latvia — to –25 to –27°C. Daytime maximum temperatures will range between –7 and –12°C, with some areas in southern Latvia experiencing slightly colder conditions.
In the middle of the week, a new cyclone will approach Latvia. On Wednesday, cloud cover will gradually increase, and in the second half of the week light snowfall is expected at times. Precipitation will ease over the weekend. Easterly winds will gradually shift to westerly directions and blow at light to moderate strength.
During the night into Wednesday, temperatures in many areas will still fall to –20 to –24°C, but in the latter half of the week severe nighttime frost is not expected. Daytime maximum temperatures will mostly range from –5 to –10°C. In the far western regions of the country, temperatures will approach 0°C, making a slight thaw possible there.
