On Friday and Saturday, the sky will mostly be covered with clouds, which will bring occasional snowfall in some areas, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Friday, intermittent snowfall is expected in the eastern parts of the country, while on Saturday snowflakes will be observed across a wider area, mainly in the south. In some places, snow cover will increase by a few centimetres over these days. A light to moderate easterly wind will continue to blow. Night-time air temperatures will range between –7…–12°C, with coastal areas being about a degree warmer, while during the day temperatures will rise to –4…–9°C.
On Sunday, clouds will dominate the sky, with occasional sunny intervals. A light to moderate easterly wind will persist. Colder air will gradually flow into the country, causing frost to intensify once again.
Daytime temperatures will range between –7…–11°C, while at night temperatures will drop to –14…–19°C.
Slightly milder air will remain in the western regions, where temperatures will range from –9…–14°C.
At the beginning of the new week, the synoptic situation will once again be influenced by an anticyclone approaching Latvia from the north. Sunshine will alternate with clouds, and dry weather will prevail. Air temperatures will tend to decrease—where skies clear, the thermometer will approach and in some places fall below –20°C. In the second half of the week, clouds will bring precipitation, and snow cover is expected to increase in certain areas.
