Weather conditions in Latvia on Thursday, the 11th of June, will be influenced by a cyclone whose center is expected to move across the country during the day. As a result, rain is forecast in some areas overnight and throughout the entire country during daytime hours, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
A yellow warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued for the entire country from late morning onward. In addition, an orange warning has been declared for central and eastern regions, where very heavy downpours, strong wind gusts of up to 24 metres per second, and an increased risk of large hail are expected during the afternoon and evening.
Meteorologists have also warned that conditions could deteriorate further, meaning that a red warning may be required for smaller, more localized areas.
In coastal regions, northwesterly to northerly winds are expected to strengthen, with gusts reaching 15-19 m/s.
Overnight temperatures will fall to +10°C to +15°C, while daytime temperatures will range between +14°C and +19°C. I
n eastern Latvia, temperatures may reach +21°C to +26°C before thunderstorms develop.
Thunderstorm activity is expected to gradually weaken during Thursday night into Friday. On Friday, only isolated areas are likely to experience brief showers. Sunny intervals are expected, accompanied by light to moderate westerly winds, although coastal areas may still experience gusty conditions overnight.
Night-time temperatures on Friday will drop to +9°C to +12°C, while daytime temperatures will rise to +15°C to +20°C.
Looking ahead to the weekend and the beginning of next week, skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy, with light to moderate winds. Conditions will continue to be wet and humid, with frequent rainfall and occasional thunderstorms. Temperatures are not expected to change significantly, remaining below +20°C across most of the country.
