Latvia is set for an unsettled and rainy week as a series of cyclones continue to influence weather conditions across the country. According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, widespread rainfall, including heavy downpours and thunderstorms, is expected in many regions over the coming days.
At the start of the week, a cyclone centre moving across eastern Latvia will bring an intense precipitation zone into the country’s southeastern regions on Monday morning. Throughout the day, this rain band will gradually move northward, bringing prolonged and locally heavy rainfall to large parts of the country.
Monday will be mostly cloudy, with only occasional sunny spells. Rain is expected across most of Latvia. In western regions, isolated storm clouds may produce heavy thunderstorms and intense downpours, while eastern areas are likely to experience more widespread and persistent rainfall. Thunderstorms are also possible in some locations. Winds will generally remain light but may become gusty during storms.
Daytime temperatures on Monday will reach between +19°C and +24°C, although parts of Kurzeme and Latgale will remain slightly cooler.
Conditions will improve only marginally on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Sunny intervals will alternate with clouds, but rain will remain a regular feature. On Tuesday, rainfall will mainly affect eastern Latvia, with Vidzeme expected to experience continued heavy showers and occasional thunderstorms. By Wednesday, rain will spread across a larger part of the country, although precipitation is expected to be less intense than earlier in the week.
Light winds and increased moisture will also create favourable conditions for fog formation in some areas on Tuesday morning. By Wednesday, winds will gradually turn southerly and strengthen slightly.
Night-time temperatures throughout the first half of the week will remain relatively mild, ranging from +9°C to +15°C, while daytime temperatures will continue to hover between +18°C and +23°C.
Looking ahead, the second half of the week will remain dominated by a succession of cyclones.
Although there will be occasional sunshine, conditions are expected to stay damp and unstable, with frequent periods of rain across much of the country.
Temperatures will also gradually decline later in the week. While nights will remain relatively mild, daytime temperatures in many areas are expected to stay below +20°C, reinforcing the feeling of a cooler and wetter start to summer.
Overall, residents should prepare for a week of changeable weather, keeping umbrellas close at hand as repeated rain bands and occasional thunderstorms move across Latvia.
