On the 26th of July, a Romanian fighter jet shot down a drone that had violated the country’s airspace, the third in just three days, and Romanian President Nicușor Dan accused Moscow of unacceptable violations, writes Politico.
The incident on Sunday, the 26th of July, marks another time that the conflict in Ukraine has affected a NATO member state. The Romanian president said it was unacceptable that Russia continues to violate Romanian airspace, which also means a violation of NATO and the European Union’s airspace. He added that
such behavior is unacceptable and is taken with the utmost seriousness.
The drone was shot down 12 kilometers northeast of the Romanian port city of Sulina in the Danube Delta, over Romanian territorial waters. The Romanian Foreign Ministry said it had summoned the Russian ambassador in connection with the airspace violations.
