The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received information from relatives about at least 15 Latvian travellers in Nepal who currently cannot be contacted, the ministry told the LETA news agency.
The ministry said that on the evening of the 26th of August, the emergency hotline of its Consular Department began receiving calls from relatives unable to contact family members and friends currently in Nepal.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received information from relatives about at least 15 travellers belonging to two groups.
As the groups had not registered with Latvia’s Consular Register,
the ministry is currently unable to provide either the exact number of Latvian tourists in Nepal
or their planned travel itineraries.
The Consular Department and Latvia’s Honorary Consul in Nepal are currently doing everything possible to determine the whereabouts of the Latvian travellers.
As previously reported, at least 162 people have been killed in flash floods triggered by a glacier collapse in Nepal, officials said on Thursday.
Another 823 people, including at least 579 tourists — both Nepalese and foreign nationals — are reported missing.
